Standard Dosage: 1-3 g seed powder twice daily with warm water; 2-5 drops essential oil in warm water; 15-30 mL Ark twice daily
Bioavailability: Thymol (primary active, 35-60% of essential oil) has excellent oral bioavailability (~60-70%) with rapid GI absorption. Undergoes hepatic glucuronidation and sulfation with renal excretion. p-Cymene (precursor/co-constituent) is well absorbed but rapidly metabolized. gamma-Terpinene has moderate bioavailability. Thymol has significant antibacterial activity even at sub-MIC systemic concentrations. Local GI antimicrobial and carminative effects are pharmacologically important independent of systemic absorption.
Optimal Timing: After meals for digestive/carminative action; before meals for appetite stimulation; Ajwain water (Ark) throughout the day for flatulence
