Bioavailability: Piper longum root contains piperine at lower concentration than fruit (1-2% vs 4-8%), but has higher piperlongumine content. Root alkaloids show moderate-to-good oral bioavailability (30-50%). Root-specific sesquiterpenes and lignans contribute to distinct pharmacological profile compared to fruit. Bioenhancer activity is present but less potent than fruit piperine due to lower concentration.
