Dosage forms and preparation

Dosage Forms: Churna (seed/bark powder), Kwatha (bark decoction), Capsule, Tablet, Taila (seed oil), Lepa (paste)

Standard Dosage: 3-6 g bark powder daily; 1-3 g seed powder daily; 20-30 mL bark decoction twice daily; 500 mg standardized extract twice daily

Bioavailability: Buchanania lanzan (Priyala/Chironji) seed contains high-quality protein and lipids enhancing self-emulsification and bioavailability of lipophilic compounds. Myricetin and other flavonoids show moderate bioavailability (15-30%). Seed oil fatty acids (oleic 50-55%, palmitic 25-30%) are well absorbed. Bark tannins act locally; systemic absorption limited.

Optimal Timing: Seed/kernel: with meals as nutritive supplement. Bark decoction: between meals for therapeutic use. Seed oil: topical application at night for skin conditions.

Standardized Extract: Priyala seed kernel extract (4:1) standardized to myricetin >1%, total phenolics >4% GAE. Cold-pressed seed oil with oleic acid >50%, acid value <5 mg KOH/g. Bark extract (8:1) with total tannins >10%.

Shelf Life: Seed kernels: 6-12 months (due to oil rancidity); Seed oil: 12-18 months with antioxidant; Bark powder: 18-24 months; Extract: 24 months

Storage: Seeds/kernels: cool, dry, pest-proof, below 20 deg C in vacuum-sealed or nitrogen-flushed packages. Oil: amber glass with nitrogen headspace, below 25 deg C. Bark: airtight containers, below 25 deg C, RH <55%.
