Repeated calcination converts lead to nano-crystalline lead sulfide form. The Shodhana process removes heavy metals other than lead. However, the drug still contains lead as its primary constituent.

- EXTREME TOXICITY RISK: Lead has NO safe level of exposure per CDC, WHO, and FDA. Even properly prepared Naga Bhasma contains lead as its primary constituent. FATAL CASES documented.
- FATAL CASE REPORT (2024): Death from lead toxicity in a Parkinson’s patient taking Ayurvedic supplements containing lead. Blood lead levels were 9x above acceptable threshold.
- FDA EMBARGO AND WARNINGS: FDA has issued specific warnings against lead-containing Ayurvedic products (e.g., Balguti Kesaria). Products found to contain levels hundreds of thousands of times above FDA limits.
- NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE: Lead is a proven neurotoxin causing irreversible brain damage, cognitive impairment, and developmental delays especially in children. No purification process can eliminate this risk.
- AUSTRALIAN TGA WARNING: Victoria Department of Health (January 2025) issued updated health advisory about Ayurvedic medicines containing lead and other heavy metals.
- 65% CONTAMINATION RATE: Studies found lead in 65% of 252 Ayurvedic medicine samples tested, indicating widespread contamination beyond just Naga Bhasma.
