Bioavailability: Syzygium cumini (Jamun is the common Hindi name). Same pharmacokinetic profile as Jambu. Anthocyanin-rich fruit preparations have ~1-2% bioavailability but undergo extensive phase II metabolism. Urolithins (gut metabolites of ellagitannins) are the primary bioavailable active metabolites with anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties.
Optimal Timing: Seed powder: 30 minutes before meals for glycemic control. Fruit juice: between meals. Vinegar: before meals diluted in water.
Standardized Extract: Seed extract standardized to 20% tannins (gallic acid equivalent) and 1% ellagic acid; fruit extract standardized to 5% anthocyanins (as cyanidin-3-glucoside)
Shelf Life: 2 years (seed powder); 3 years (extract capsule); 6 months (fruit juice, preserved); 1 year (vinegar)
Storage: Cool, dry place below 25°C. Anthocyanin preparations must be protected from light and stored at acidic pH. Seed powder in airtight moisture-proof containers.
