## Recent safety updates

- Jasmine flower extracts and oils have extensive safe use in perfumery, cosmetics, and food flavoring. RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) safety data supports cosmetic use of jasmine compounds
- Linalool is a known allergen in EU cosmetic regulations (must be declared on labels above threshold concentrations). Rare cases of contact sensitization to jasmine oil reported. Root preparations for skin diseases should be used with caution - limited safety data

## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Churna (powder), Kwatha (decoction), Svarasa (leaf juice), Essential oil, Capsule, Lepa (paste), Taila (medicated oil)

**Standard Dosage:** 3-5 g leaf/flower powder twice daily; 50-100 mL decoction twice daily; 10-20 mL fresh leaf juice daily; 2-3 drops essential oil in carrier

**Bioavailability:** Jasminine and other indole alkaloids have moderate oral bioavailability (~25-40%). Secoiridoids ([oleuropein](/glossary/compounds-o-q/#oleuropein)-type) undergo intestinal hydrolysis to hydroxytyrosol with moderate absorption. Jasmine essential oil components (linalool, benzyl acetate, indole) are rapidly absorbed both orally and transdermally. Linalool has good bioavailability (~50%) and CNS penetration ([anxiolytic](/reference/anxiolytic/) effect). Flower wax components are poorly absorbed orally but valuable for topical formulations.

**Optimal Timing:** Leaf preparations: morning and evening after meals; aromatherapy: evening/bedtime for relaxation; flower applications: as needed

**Standardized Extract:** Jasmine absolute: linalool >15%, benzyl acetate >20% by GC-MS; leaf extract standardized to >1% total alkaloids (as jasminine by HPLC); >3% total [iridoids](/glossary/compounds-g-l/#iridoids)

**Shelf Life:** Fresh flowers: 12-24 hours; Dried flowers: 6-12 months; Jasmine absolute: 36-48 months; Leaf powder: 12-18 months; Essential oil: 24-36 months; Capsules: 24 months

**Storage:** Jasmine absolute in amber glass at 2-8 deg C for long-term storage. Dried flowers in airtight, light-resistant containers. Leaf powder at 15-25 deg C in airtight containers. Protect all aromatic materials from heat and light.
