# Vriddhi

> Vriddhi is a substance used in the Ayurvedic materia medica. Mucilaginous polysaccharides from tubers are not systemically absorbed but act as prebiotics. Steroidal saponins show low oral bioavailability (<15%) enhanced by milk or ghee co-administration.

## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Churna (tuber powder), Kwatha (decoction), Capsule, Tablet, Lehyam (confection), [Ksheera](/herb/ksheera/) Paka (milk decoction)

**Standard Dosage:** 3-6 g tuber powder twice daily with milk; 50-100 mL decoction twice daily

**Bioavailability:** Habenaria/orchid [alkaloids](/glossary/compounds-1-a/#alkaloids) have moderate oral bioavailability (~20-35%). Mucilaginous [polysaccharides](/glossary/compounds-o-q/#polysaccharides) from tubers are not systemically absorbed but act as prebiotics. Steroidal [saponins](/reference/saponins/) show low oral bioavailability (<15%) enhanced by milk or ghee co-administration. The Ksheera Paka (milk decoction) preparation significantly improves absorption of lipophilic compounds through casein solubilization.

**Optimal Timing:** After meals with warm milk for [Rasayana](/reference/rasayana/) and [Vajikarana](/glossary/pharmacology/#vajikarana) effect; evening dosing preferred; Ksheera Paka at bedtime
