## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Shodhit (purified) Churna, Vati (tablet), Capsule, EXTERNAL USE: Lepa (paste), Taila (oil)

**Standard Dosage:** TOXIC HERB - Only after Shodhana: 15-60 mg of Shodhit (purified) powder per dose; NEVER exceed 125 mg/day; ONLY under qualified Ayurvedic physician supervision

**Bioavailability:** Aconitine and related diterpene alkaloids are rapidly and almost completely absorbed orally (bioavailability >80-90%), which contributes to extreme toxicity. Lethal dose of crude aconitine is 2-5 mg in adults. Onset of toxicity within 10-20 minutes of ingestion. Shodhana (purification by processing with cow urine or cow milk) hydrolyzes aconitine to less toxic benzylaconitine and aconine (1000-fold less toxic). Even after Shodhana, significant residual toxicity remains. Transdermal absorption is also rapid and clinically significant (poisoning from skin contact documented).

**Optimal Timing:** Only as prescribed by qualified Vaidya; typically after meals with specific anupana; short-term use only

**Standardized Extract:** Shodhit (purified) powder only; residual aconitine <0.05% by LC-MS/MS (mandatory safety limit); total alkaloid content reduced to <0.3% post-Shodhana

**Shelf Life:** Shodhit powder: 12-18 months; Vati: 24 months; Must be retested for aconitine content if storage exceeds labeled shelf life

**Storage:** POISON CUPBOARD - locked storage with restricted access. Airtight containers at 15-25 deg C. Label: SCHEDULE E1 / VISHA DRAVYA / POISON. Complete batch documentation and chain-of-custody records mandatory. Separate from non-toxic materials.
