  20 male individuals taking 100 mg twice daily for 40 days (cumulative gold intake: 160 mg at 4 mg/day) showed no toxic effects based on clinical examination, unaltered body weight, absence of urinary pathology, and 30 sensitive biochemical and enzymatic tests. Gold was found in plasma, erythrocytes, and semen.

## Recent safety updates

- The only published clinical safety study (2002) was small (n=20, male only) and of short duration (40 days); no long-term safety data exists in peer-reviewed literature
- Contains mercury as HgS and multiple metal bhasmas - heavy metal accumulation is a concern with prolonged use; gold was detected in plasma, erythrocytes, urine, and semen indicating systemic distribution
- Strictly contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation, and children; not recommended for patients with pre-existing renal or hepatic disorders due to heavy metal content
- Must be sourced from GMP-certified manufacturers with batch-wise heavy metal testing; counterfeit or poorly prepared products pose significant toxicity risks
