[Chlorophyll](/glossary/compounds-c-d/#chlorophyll)-associated compounds require bile salt emulsification for absorption. Leaf [saponins](/reference/saponins/) have better bioavailability than fruit saponins due to lower molecular weight profiles. Ascorbic acid from fresh leaves is rapidly absorbed (>80%).

**Optimal Timing:** Fresh juice: morning on empty stomach for blood purification. Decoction: between meals. Leaf powder supplements: after meals with warm water.
