## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Churna (powder), Kashayam (decoction), Capsule, Taila (medicated oil)

**Standard Dosage:** 3-6g powder twice daily; 50-100ml decoction; external oil as needed

**Bioavailability:** Coleus vettiveroides (Vetiveria zizanioides, Khus) root contains sesquiterpenes ([vetiverol](/glossary/compounds-t-z/#vetiverol), vetivone) with moderate lipophilic absorption. Essential oil components are well absorbed transdermally. Oral bioavailability of sesquiterpenes is moderate; lipid-based formulations may enhance absorption.

**Optimal Timing:** Between meals with cool water or coconut water for Pitta disorders; externally as needed

**Standardized Extract:** Essential oil standardized to vetiverol content (>15%); hydroalcoholic extract with characteristic HPTLC fingerprint

**Shelf Life:** 2 years (powder); 3 years (essential oil, sealed); 2 years (capsule)

**Storage:** Cool, dry place below 25°C. Essential oil in amber glass containers. Root powder in airtight containers.
