## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Churna (powder) - Shodhita only, Kashayam (decoction), Tablet, Kwath Ghana (solid decoction extract)

**Standard Dosage:** 1-2g Shodhita root powder as purgative; 500mg-1g for mild [laxative](/reference/laxative/); 30-50ml decoction. Must be used under qualified practitioner supervision.

**Bioavailability:** Root contains higher concentration of diterpene esters than stem. Purgative principles act locally in the intestine with limited systemic absorption desired. Post-Shodhana processing in cow's milk denatures protein-bound toxins and reduces phorbol ester load by 60-80%. Bioavailability of therapeutic laxative principles is adequate via oral route without enhancement.

**Optimal Timing:** Early morning on empty stomach with warm water; recommended only during Virechana therapy under Ayurvedic supervision

**Standardized Extract:** Shodhita root powder or aqueous extract. No standardized extract commercially available. Must carry certificate of Shodhana completion with batch records.

**Shelf Life:** 1 year (Shodhita powder in moisture-proof container); 2 years (tablet)

**Storage:** Airtight, light-resistant containers below 25 deg C and below 45% RH. Must be labeled 'Shodhita [Danti](/herb/danti/) Moola - for use under medical supervision only.' Store separately from general herbs.
