## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Churna (powder), Tablet, Capsule, Kashayam (decoction), Component of [Trikatu](/herb/trikatu/) and digestive formulations

**Standard Dosage:** 1-3g powder twice daily with warm water; 500mg extract capsule; 50-100ml decoction; commonly used as part of compound digestive formulations

**Bioavailability:** Piper chaba/P. retrofractum root and stem—piperine alkaloids show excellent oral bioavailability (>80%). Root contains higher concentration of piperlongumine compared to fruit. Thermogenic and bioenhancer properties identical to [Chavika](/herb/chavika/) (fruit of the same species). Enhances bioavailability of co-administered compounds through CYP3A4 and P-gp modulation.

**Optimal Timing:** Before meals with warm water for digestive stimulation; with meals for enhanced nutrient absorption; not recommended at bedtime due to stimulant properties

**Standardized Extract:** Root extract standardized to piperine NLT 3%; piperlongumine NLT 1%; total alkaloids NLT 6%

**Shelf Life:** 2 years (powder); 3 years (tablet/capsule)
