# Arishtaka

> Arishtaka is a classical Ayurvedic fermented arishta or asava. Fermentation may generate novel bioactive compounds not present in the parent decoction. Optimal Timing: After meals (Bhojana-uttara), twice daily Shelf Life: 10 years from date of manufacture as per ASU guidelines for Arishta preparations Storage: Store in well-closed amber glass or HDPE containers in a cool place.

## What is it made of?

### Mineral/Elemental Profile

- **Primary component:** Mineral-derived preparation
- **Note:** Composition varies by specific preparation method

**Analytical Methods:** XRD, ICP-OES, SEM-EDS

## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Arishta (fermented decoction), Liquid oral (modern)

**Standard Dosage:** 15-30 mL twice daily after meals with equal quantity of water, as per classical texts

**Bioavailability:** Fermentation-generated alcohol acts as a natural bioenhancer and extractive solvent, improving the solubility and absorption of plant secondary metabolites. Fermentation may generate novel bioactive compounds not present in the parent decoction.

**Optimal Timing:** After meals (Bhojana-uttara), twice daily

**Shelf Life:** 10 years from date of manufacture as per ASU guidelines for Arishta preparations

**Storage:** Store in well-closed amber glass or HDPE containers in a cool place. Protect from direct sunlight. Temperature not exceeding 30°C.

**Marker Compounds:** Specific markers depend on primary herb used, Gallic acid, Ellagic acid, Flavonoid [glycosides](/glossary/compounds-g-l/#glycosides)

**Quality Parameters:** pH (3.0-4.5), specific gravity, self-generated alcohol content (5-12% v/v), total solids, total sugar, total acidity, microbial limits, heavy metals, HPTLC fingerprint, absence of methanol

**Vehicle (Anupana):** Equal quantity of lukewarm water
