> Aragvadhadi Kwath is a classical Ayurvedic kashaya, a water decoction. Anthraquinone glycosides from Aragvadha are hydrolyzed in the gut to active aglycones. Curcumin absorption is limited without lipid co-administration.

## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Kwath/Kashayam (decoction), Kashayam tablet (modern), Concentrated liquid (modern)

**Standard Dosage:** 40-80 mL twice daily, as per AFI

**Bioavailability:** Hot aqueous decoction provides immediate absorption of water-soluble constituents. Anthraquinone [glycosides](/glossary/compounds-g-l/#glycosides) from Aragvadha are hydrolyzed in the gut to active aglycones. [Curcumin](/herb/curcumin/) absorption is limited without lipid co-administration.

**Optimal Timing:** On empty stomach, morning and evening, 30 minutes before meals

**Shelf Life:** Same day use (fresh kwath), 6 months (preserved concentrate), 3 years (tablet form) as per ASU guidelines

**Storage:** Fresh kwath: prepare and consume same day. Concentrates: store in amber glass at 2-8°C or at room temperature with approved preservatives. Tablets: airtight containers at room temperature.
