> Amritarishta is a classical Ayurvedic fermented arishta or asava. Fermentation produces novel bioactive metabolites not present in the original decoction. Rapid oral absorption of water-alcohol soluble fraction.

## Dosage forms and preparation

**Dosage Forms:** Arishta (fermented decoction), Capsules (modern)

**Standard Dosage:** 15-30 mL twice daily after meals with equal quantity of water, as per AFI Part I

**Bioavailability:** Self-generated alcohol (5-12%) acts as preservative and bioenhancer, enabling extraction and absorption of [alkaloids](/glossary/compounds-1-a/#alkaloids) and [glycosides](/glossary/compounds-g-l/#glycosides). Fermentation produces novel bioactive metabolites not present in the original decoction. Rapid oral absorption of water-alcohol soluble fraction.

**Optimal Timing:** After meals (Bhojana-uttara), twice daily

**Shelf Life:** 10 years from date of manufacture as per ASU guidelines for Arishta preparations

**Storage:** Store in well-closed amber glass or HDPE containers in a cool, dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Temperature not exceeding 30°C.
